Gamblin Stand Oil

Gamblin Stand Oil
is polymerized refined linseed oil produced from North America flax seed. After linseed oil has been refined by neutralizing the free acidity, it is heated in a vacuum until it thickens. Ecomomical Stand oil, invented in th 19th century, replaced Venice turpentine & sun thickened oil. Stand oil leaves an enamel like finish. Adding only Stand Oil increase the tendency of oil painting to wrinkle & slows down the drying time.

Gamblin Mixing Guid

HIGH COHESION, SLOW DRY
Mix 50% Oil to 50% Solvent to create thin illusionary surfaces with no brush marks. Stand Oil mixed with solvent makes a similar high viscosity painting medium that is also slow drying.
*High viscosity creates an enamel-like surface. A high viscosity medium has high sheen and high cohesive force that levels its surface. Adding a high viscosity medium makes a mixture thicker with a definite sticky feeling.
*NOTE: Mix all painting mediums thoroughly by shaking before using, especially those that contain only oil and solvent.

INCREASE VISCOCITY, SLOW DRY
Adding about 10% by volume to Gamblin Galkyd painting medium increase the viscosity of Galkdy and slows down the drying time of Galkyd.
