Gamblin A.S.O. (Art Sketching Oil)

Gamblin A.S.O. colors are made for painters who are learning new techniques or experimenting with new ideas. Robert Gamblin wants to give students in particular, good quality traditional "sketching" paints so they can learn how to control artists' most important tool: COLOR

The texture of Gamblin A.S.O. oil colors is similar to that of Gamblin Artists' Grade oil colors because fluid linseed oil packed with a heavy pigment load. Cheaper, lower grades of oil paints, which roberts call "economy paints", are made differntly. Economy paints are made by gelling the oil so it absorbs less pigment. This gelled oil gives economy paints a greasy texture. Also, the low pigment load makes color mixing ver difficult. Using Gamblin A.S.O. colors, pigments can mix clean secondary colors and use all other oil painting techniques seccessfully.

Genuine Cadmium and Cobalt colors are opaque enough to explore direct painting techniques like those of the Impressionists. For painters interested in high key emotions and intense color schemes, the Gamblin A.S.O. line includes an array of 20th century modern colors. With the limited palette of earth colors plus Ivory Black and Titanium White, painters can explore the techniques of Renaissance Masters, including portrait painting.

As painting students learn to control color using Gamblin A.S.O., they can add more Gamblin Artists' Grade oil colors to increase their acceess to color spcae without having to reinvent their color mixing system.
